Michael Lampert is an award winning physics teacher from Salem, Oregon. His twenty years of teaching include being honored by Disney, USA Today and the National Science Foundation. He enjoys all things related to science and engineering and has written curriculum for PBS and Wired Science. Mr. Lampert’s students have been recognized with first place medals across the country in national science and robotic competitions. He has taught science from as far away as Antarctica and Africa. He teaches unique lessons on ozone, infrasound, airbags, and solar energy. Mr. Lampert’s classroom is best described as an eclectic array of gizmo’s and gadgets with hundreds of pictures of his students adorning the walls.

    Wow, it is really tough to list only ten books! There are many great authors to select from with so many great stories for such a diverse age group. You will have to make the age limit call on whether your child can read these books, some will be too young and some will be too old. It is a wonderful age of intellectual growth and I certainly feel all these books belong somewhere on your bookshelf.

  • Best Science Toys  Elementary
    All science starts with exploration and there is no better way than to play with toys to understand science. In my classroom, I have a whole drawer labeled “physics toys” just to spice up the lesson when my kids are feeling down. I especially like teaching the younger kids by visiting them in the elementary schools. I hope parents recognize the importance of playing with your children. Toys can be a lot more if you spend the time and explain the science behind them. I selected toys that are some of my favorites, some that I have had success with in classrooms, and some that are not regulars in toy stores.

  • Best Science Projects for High School
    Often during open house, I have parents ask me what things they can buy for their children to help them in a science career. Many times their children love science while their own parents are clueless about it. So with that in mind, I list ten products that I love to play with and have used with my own children to stimulate interest in science. It really helps to engage your children in activities where they can explore these concepts, so check with your school for science clubs and don’t be afraid to approach the science teacher to start a club. There are many organizations out there promoting science fairs and these toys are just the thing to get your child interested in science.
