Adomatis first used Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment in 1999 to document hiking trails in the foothills of South Carolina. In May of 2000, the U. S. government improved the system’s accuracy for the general public, making recreational GPS applications more practical. Doug began publishing recreational GPS data on the Internet in the Fall of 2000.
The demand for location data surged along with the development of specialized GPS devices and mapping software products. Seeing a need for a more comprehensive web site for GPS navigation enthusiasts, Adomatis launched his second Internet endeavor –
TravelByGPS.com - providing product reviews and tutorials, and an ever-increasing database of location information.
Now working with contributors from all over the world, Adomatis continues to develop and publish point-of-interest (POI) data, GPs eXchange (GPX) files, and GPS tour guides, incorporating audio narrative and visual images.
