Need a little assistance choosing the right kickboxing DVD for you? You have come to the right place. I have chosen some of the "Best" Kickboxing DVDs on the market. However, to choose the workout routine that is best for you; there are some things to consider:
Determine your current fitness level: If you are a beginner, it is recommended that you consult with your health care provider prior to beginning any exercise routine. Kickboxing is a cardiovascular workout and is a high-intensity, high-impact form of exercise.
Familiarize yourself with some of the advantages of kickboxing which are improving and maintaining cardiovascular fitness, increasing strength and flexibility, improving coordination and balance and sharpening reflexes. According to a study by the American Council on Exercise (ACE), you can burn anywhere from 350 to 450 calories an hour with kickboxing.
You should also familiarize yourself with some of the disadvantages of kickboxing: particularly the risk of joint injury and next-day soreness, especially for beginners and those who use incorrect form. According to ACE, some of the most common, potentially injurious kickboxing mistakes are:
- Overextending kicks
- Exercising beyond fatigue
- Locking your joints when throwing punches or kicking
- Wearing weights or holding dumbbells when throwing punches
In addition to using correct form, it is important to workout at your own pace. Try to start at a level that suits you and slowly progress to a more intense, fast-paced kickboxing workout.
Now that we have covered some of the basics, it is now time to take a look at some of the DVDs on the list below.
